We are currently a family of five. We are on a journey to discover and fulfill God's plans for our lives. For us this adventure has gotten more and more exciting as we have studied God's word and looked to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as our example of what this life is all about. In the Summer of 2009, God lead us to reexamine what we are living for, and to ponder what He might do with our lives if we COMPLETELY surrendered them to Him. To give God full reign, to let him "Give us the desires of our hearts"....what would that look like? You see He will not give us whatever our hearts desire. He, our Creator, will give us (place in us) the new desires of our heart.
We believe that the concept of the "American Dream" has been twisted over the past 2 generations. It has changed from the idea that America is a place where anyone can have the opportunity to be successful with hard work INTO a lifestyle of satisfying our ever insatiable appetite for material things and achieving success. I ask myself, for what? We know we can't take it with us? What are we doing? What are we investing in? Let's face it, we ALL know it. The more we give our kids, the more they want and the more they DO NOT appreciate what they have. And we as grown-ups feel the same thing, we enjoy our latest gadgets, the latest technology (as do I, as I type on my netbook) until we become bored with it or something newer, better and faster comes out. This hunger for more, fed by our culture, has no boundaries and it has walked right through the doors of our churches and set up camp. In this process, the American Dream has infected our churches and eaten a hole in the Gospel that would otherwise be shining a light in the darkness that surrounds us.
In the fall of 2009, my husband and I got an answer to prayer as the Lord revealed to us that His plan was to bless us with more children through the miracle of adoption. You can read about that here.
We began a faith journey that took us to Uganda on a 10 day mission trip during the summer of 2010.
We weren't on a mission to find children. We were there on a God adventure to discover why Uganda, to serve, to see what God wanted to show us, to be changed, to let Him reprioritize our lives. We fell in love with the people of Uganda. God planted seeds in our hearts for the people of Uganda, their culture, a simple and excruciatingly HARD life that produces a strength of faith that only comes through UTTER dependence on God for your very life.
Now AT LAST:), in the beginning of 2011, we have finally been relocated with my husband's job to a place that we know we can call home for several years. Our new home has been filled with peace as God has prepared us to hear the words we have LONGED to hear in our hearts, "it is finally time to begin our homestudy and journey to bring home our children from Uganda."
Please pray for us as we step out in faith to receive two more of God's most precious gifts into our family.
